City Council Education Committee – Preliminary Budget proposal

March 16, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The City Council Education Committee is holding a hearing on Mayor Di Blasio’s Preliminary Budget proposal on Wednesday, March 16 down at City Hall – Public testimony begins at 1:00 pm.  The Lunch 4 Learning Campaign is hoping to have good representation of campaign members testifying before the Education Committee.  If you are available to testify on 3/16 please contact Liz at: laccles@foodadvocates.org

NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE TESTIFYING IS NEEDED! The process is actually very cool –

  • you prepare a brief testimony about the importance of access to free school lunch for all public school children (coming from us physicians and health care providers, the angle would be more focused on how universal expansion supports child health – such as attentiveness in school/learning, and reduction of stigma and bullying, improved self-esteems, reduction in symptoms associated with not eating for long periods of time, etc.).
  • you get feedback from Liz and the final testimony  is sent to her before 3/16 so she can print out copies ahead of time for each Education Committee member  (filed for the public record)
  • For the record you state your name and profession and then read your prepared testimony (generally given < 2-3 minutes)  before the Education Committee when the Lunch 4 Learning campaign representatives are called to the side table with microphones to testify
